Choosing a connecting route: the main hubs from Chisinau
Through-ticket vs. self-transfer
If both flight segments are on one ticket (with the same airline or an alliance partner), your connection is protected: if the first flight is delayed, you're rebooked onto the next one for free, and if that's not possible, the airline must offer an alternative or a refund. Self-transfer means two separate tickets for the same connecting route, bought independently (sometimes with different airlines). It can be cheaper, but if you miss the connection because the first flight ran late, the second airline has no obligation to compensate you — the ticket is simply forfeited unless its fare allows a free change.
Self-transfer is only worth considering if the gap between flights is several times the minimum (2-3x), and if you're willing to risk losing the value of the second ticket if the first flight has a problem.
Minimum connection time at the main hubs
From Chisinau, the most common connections run through Istanbul (Turkish Airlines), Vienna (Austrian Airlines), Frankfurt and Munich (Lufthansa), Warsaw (LOT), and Paris (Air France). The official minimum connecting time (MCT) is set separately by each airport and airline, and it isn't the same for every flight.

Choosing between one stop and two
Every extra connection is one more point where a delay or cancellation can happen. If the price gap between a one-stop and a two-stop option is small, pick the one-stop route — the risk is lower. If the savings are significant but require self-transfer with a short minimum window, weigh what matters more to you: price, or guaranteed connection protection.
What to check at different airports
In most cases, passengers transiting the Schengen area without leaving the international transit zone don't need a separate transit visa — but requirements depend on nationality and the specific airport, and we're not presenting this as a universal rule.
