Flight price analytics: why tickets are getting pricier in 2026

Per IATA's forecast, the average jet fuel price in 2026 will be about $152 a barrel — nearly 70% higher than $90 in 2025, on a Brent crude baseline of $95 a barrel (up 37%). IATA directly forecasts that airline ticket yields will grow roughly 7% in 2026 specifically to offset fuel costs.

At the same time, passenger traffic keeps growing: 5.1 billion passengers are expected worldwide (+2.4%), with load factor reaching a record 84% of seats filled. Europe's separate forecast: 2.8% demand growth, but profit per passenger falls from $10.30 to $7.50 — airlines are earning less per passenger even at higher prices, because fuel costs are rising faster than revenue.

The main takeaway there: the price swing between months for beach routes (Antalya: from €51 in November to €176 in June) is far wider than for steady city routes (Bucharest: from €13 to €41). That means IATA's general fuel factor layers on top of each route's own baseline volatility — rising fuel prices will show up most on routes that already have a wide seasonal swing.

Given rising fuel costs and IATA's forecast 7% rise in ticket yields, it's reasonable to expect prices on popular summer routes from Chisinau (beach routes like Antalya and Sharm El Sheikh especially) to be higher next peak season than a year earlier — but that's an estimate based on an industry-wide forecast, not a guarantee. The actual price on a specific date also depends on airline competition on the route, individual carriers' fuel hedging (in Europe, per IATA, roughly 70% of fuel purchases are hedged), and demand for that specific flight.

If the fuel factor is pushing prices up, the gap between peak and low season becomes even more worth exploiting — date flexibility works harder in your favor than usual. For routes with a wide seasonal swing, it's worth booking earlier than you did last year if you want to catch a price closer to the low end of the range.
